Recent events have led me to stop any work on making new computers, and working on the computer itself for a while.  I’m going to spend some time being a “user” (as much as I don’t like that term I don’t know what else to use).

This means abandoning Linux, because at least for me running Linux has always meant working on it.  After considering the options, I’ve decided to switch to a Mac (which you might have guessed from my earlier post).

I’m doing this because I’m tired, and while I see a number of good computers on the horizon, it’s going to be awhile before any of them are ready for daily use (including my own designs), and since every available computer, operating system, etc. is compromised, I might as well use one that has a mail client with working spell check.

So for at least the rest of the year I’m going to focus on making things other that computers.  I have to say, so far it’s been kind of fun.  There’s something liberating about giving-up on trying to make the computer better and just accepting it for what it is and getting work done anyway.  When you accept the limitations of a prescribed tool you have a lot more capacity to actually use it for something.

So for the next few months I’m going to focus on wrapping-up Halloween projects, the line of audio components I’ve been designing, building and testing and various other things that might involve using a computer, but not building them, designing them or working on existing machines, operating systems, etc.

We’ll see how it goes.
